Crochet Autumn Pumpkin Coaster (Free Pattern)

Autumn is here and pumpkin season is upon us! This crochet pattern for the Autumn Pumpkin Coaster is a fun, quick make that can be made using left-over scrap yarn. Below is the written pattern and video tutorial to crochet your own.

Supplies:

  • Medium 4 weight cotton yarn: orange, green, brown
  • 5.00mm and 5.50mm crochet hooks
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

*Yarn used for the pumpkin body. Main photo: Premier Cotton in color Tangerine Splash. Pattern photos: Crafter’s Secret Cotton in color Auburn Clay. Scrap cotton yarn was used for the stem, leaf and vine.

Notes:

The stem, leaf and vine are worked in row(s). The pumpkin body is worked in-the-round. The last round of the pumpkin is where the pumpkin shape will be made. Beginning chain(s) do NOT count as a stitch. Therefore, the first stitch will be worked in the same stitch as beginning chain(s) unless otherwise specified.

Directions

Pumpkin body

*With 5.50mm crochet hook and color orange yarn

Start with a MR

Round One: CH2. 8HDC into the mr. SS into the first hdc of the round. (8sts)

Round Two: CH2. (HDCINC)*. SS into the first hdc of the round. (16sts)

Round Three: CH2. (HDCINC. HDC.)*. SS into the first hdc of the round. (24sts)

Round Four: CH2. (HDCINC. 2HDC)*. SS into the first hdc of the round. (32sts)

Round Five: The steps for this round is written below as bullet list to make it easier to follow.

  • SC into the next st (not the same st as the ss).
  • HDC into the next two stitches.
  • DCINC into the next three stitches.
  • HDCINC into the next two stitches.
  • HDC into the next three stitches.
  • SCINC into the next stitch.
  • SC into the next six stitches.
  • SCINC into the next stitch.
  • HDC into the next three stitches.
  • HDCINC into the next two stitches.
  • DCINC into the next three stitches.
  • HDC into the next two stitches.
  • SC into the next stitch.
  • SS into the next stitch.

Fasten off.

Stem

*With 5.00mm crochet hook and brown yarn

Row One: SS into the stitch on the right side of the top, center stitch of pumpkin body. CH5. HDC into the third chain from the hook. HDC into the next two chains. SS into the top, center stitch of the pumpkin body. TURN. (3sts)

Row Two: CH1. (HDC)*. TURN. (3sts)

Row Three: CH1. (HDC)*. SS into the stitch left to the center, top of the pumpkin body. (3sts)

Fasten off.

Leaf (optional)

*With 5.00mm crochet hook and green yarn

Row One: Attach the yarn to the bottom, right stitch of the stem. CH5. SS into the second chain from the hook. SC into the next two chains. HDC into the last chain. SS back into the bottom, right stitch of the stem(same stitch where the yarn for the leaf was originally attached).

Fasten off.

Vine (optional)

*With 5.00mm crochet hook and green yarn

Attach the yarn to the top, left side of the pumpkin stem. CH10.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.
