Lately, I have been enjoying adding gems to crocheted items. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it makes sense to add gems to crocheted hearts. These mini crochet gem hearts are a quick-make that can be used as appliqués, garland etc. Applying a gem onto the center of the heart giving it that extra bedazzle. Below is the step-by-step instructions, with photos to guide you while making your own.
Supplies:
- Medium 4 weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in color Retro Stripes)
- 5.5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Heart gem
- Glue (hot glue, gem glue etc)
Stitches/abbreviations:
- MC: magic circle(ring)
- Ch: chain
- SS: slipstitch
- DC: double crochet
- TR: triple crochet
Notes:
This pattern is worked in-the-round into a magic circle. An alternative to the magic circle will be to chain 3 and slipstitch into the first chain. From there you will follow the pattern directions working into the center of the circle created by the slipstitch join. Make sure to crochet over the tail end simultaneously while working the stitches into the circle, as this will allow you to pull on the yarn end to easily close the center opening.
